Fiji’s victory at the Singapore Sevens last weekend was remarkable on a number of levels.
The Olympic champions were playing in their first World Series tournament since Dubai and were given a rude awakening with a first-ever defeat to Ireland in their opening game.
The Fiji Airways Fijiana Sevens who played both finals of the opening tournaments of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will have to readjust in the next leg of the series with the inclusion of champions Black Ferns Sevens.
Tokyo Olympics gold medallists the Blacks Ferns has been included with the Olympics bronze medallists Fijiana in Pool B of the Malaga Sevens tournament which also includes the USA and Canada.

Fijiana lost 7-22 to the fleet footed Aussies last week but shut down their attacks keeping them out in sustained attacks from the opening whistle before the first try by Faith Nathan in the fourth minute.

Vakurunabili scored in the third minute followed by tries from Kaminieli Rasaku in the fifth minute, Iowane Ratuciri in the eighth minute and Iowane Teba in the 13th minute.

Winger Reapi Ulunisau scored a third try in an individual effort wrong stepping the French tacklers to run over fifty metres clear under the posts to score the winner in the 11th minute.

Fiji defeated Canada earlier this afternoon 33-19 in the last four placings, ninth to twelve, and Spain downed Japan 31-7 in their encounter for Fiji and Spain fighting for number nine and ten and Canada and Japan playing off for the bottom of the pile later.

Moneta who was the top try scorer at the Tokyo Olympics has been named in the Pumas 13-member team in Dubai this weekend and will face the Fijians in their final pool match tomorrow morning.
